Working with Swinomish Social Services Chuck also provides family therapy.

Thursday afternoons at 3:30PM Chuck facilitates the Swinomish Parent's Group at the Swinomish Social Services Building in the old Day Care Room on the first floor. Darlene Peters continues continues to advise and support Chuck as she continues her Master's program and her work in the La Conner schools. The parenting tools contained in our book, PARENTING TOOL BOX were devloped over the last twenty years as we visited in family homes and gatherred in parenting groups in clinic settings, churches and communit centers in Skagit County. We learned that when parents are dealing with manipulative children they need non-maipulative tools. If manipulative parenting tools are used the child simply learns to be a more effective manipulator than their parents. As we learn non-manipulative parenting tools and pass them along to families, the children do much better and the parents feel proud of their new skills. As the parents feel more succcessful they pass the skills to the newer parents in the group sessions.

Parents attending the group are looking for a safe place to tell their stories and be heard. They are looking for parenting ideas that work for them and help them feel proud of their parenting skills. SWINOMISH PARENT'S GROUP provides this reliable safe place every Thursday Afternoon.
